Vocabulary Dress Up Day

Sorry this didn't make it up earlier. I guess I hit "save" instead of "post." Oops! Anyway, check out all of our costumes on vocabulary dress up day. Mrs. Fazio and I dressed alike and our word was "similar." Unfortunately, we got so busy we forgot to take a picture of ourselves.

Don't worry if your child didn't dress up. We found vocabulary words for every child using the outfits they had on!

Million Minute Marathon

The district is celebrating the “Million Minute Marathon” along with the state during the Just Read, Florida Week this week.
As a part of our contribution, the district and state are asked that students are provided with an opportunity to read an additional 20+ minutes during the day. The goal is to reach 1 million minutes of reading state-wide.

Today, we did just that! Student sat in the hall with their fellow kindergarteners and read for 20 minutes. Check it out!

News from Mrs. Parfitt

Each morning we give students a "secret sentence." They need to use a combination of sight words, decodable words, picture clues, context clues, etc. to figure out the sentence.

Yesterday, students had a very special sentence to figure out. The sentence was, "Mrs. Parfitt is going to have a baby!" They immediately asked if it was true (sometimes we make up silly sentences that are not true) and it is! I am so excited to finally announce that I am expecting a baby this June!

My due date shouldn't effect the school year in any way, but I will be getting MUCH bigger!!

Polar Express Day

We had such a wonderful Polar Express Day! We want to thank you all again for all of your donations. The kids had a blast! It was a great way to end 2013 with them.

Adopt a Classroom

We have our FIRST Adopt-A-Classroom donor! JC Penny's donated $100 for us to spend on our class. We are so appreciative of them but we'd love to have more. Our goal is to purchase an iPad for students to use. If you, a friend or family member would like to donate just visit www.adoptaclassroom.org! If you know someone that owns a business, the business can make a tax deductable donation too. Please spread the word!

Gingerbread Man

We apologize for our lack of posts lately. We have been so busy with Thanksgiving and planning for Christmas we forgot all about our blog!

This week in reading students will be working on identifying the major events in a story and how they relate to the characters and story. Today, we read the Gingerbread Man and discussed the different characters, events, the refrain, ending, etc. Each day this week we will read a different version of The Gingerbread Man and complete an attribute chart that will help us identify the major events in each story as well as compare and contrast the different versions of the same story.

Here's what we've learned so far...
